What is microneedling?
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy or CIT, uses very fine sterile needles to create controlled microscopic channels in the skin. The point is not the needles themselves. It is the repair and remodelling response your skin starts afterwards.
At No.1 Urban Aesthetics, microneedling is planned around the condition of your skin rather than a fixed needle depth or one-size-fits-all protocol. Treatment depth, areas, product selection, session spacing and course length are chosen after a face-to-face skin assessment.
For clients who want better skin rather than a different face, microneedling can be considered for texture, selected atrophic acne scarring, fine static lines, photoageing, uneven-looking skin and wider skin-quality goals. Microneedling does not add facial volume and does not alter muscle movement.
What can microneedling help with?
- Skin texture and surface quality. Controlled stimulation may support smoother-looking, more refined skin over an appropriately planned treatment course.
- Collagen support and firmness. Microneedling is designed to trigger a controlled repair response which supports collagen remodelling over time.
- Selected post-acne textural scarring. Some atrophic acne scars may be suitable for microneedling after assessment. Active acne and inflamed skin are approached differently.
- Fine lines and photoageing. Microneedling may form part of a wider skin plan where fine static lines, visible sun-related change or declining skin quality are concerns.

What to expect from your microneedling appointment
- Consultation and skin assessment. We start with your concern, not the device. Your skin condition, goals, medical history, contraindications, recovery capacity and expectations are assessed before a treatment plan is agreed.
- Individual protocol planning. Treatment depth, areas, pass count, product selection and course length are clinical decisions made for the skin in front of us rather than a standard setting applied universally.
- Preparation and treatment. Your skin is prepared appropriately before controlled microneedling. Appointment time varies with the protocol; allow up to 90 minutes where preparation and adjuncts are included.
- Recovery and aftercare. Temporary redness, warmth, tightness or sensitivity can occur. You leave with written aftercare and clear guidance on skincare, makeup, exercise, heat exposure and when to contact the clinic.

Our approach is consultation-led and protocol-led. We consider preparation, sterile technique, treatment parameters, product choice, recovery and review as part of the treatment rather than focusing only on what happens while the device is on the skin.
If microneedling is not the right starting point for your skin, we will tell you. A treatment plan may instead involve skincare, Dermalogica PRO treatment, another skin treatment, appropriate spacing or simply waiting until the skin is ready.
Where a prescription-only product is considered as part of a wider treatment plan, prescribing is handled separately by Christopher Beckett, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber (NMC 05H0333E), following the assessment required for that product. Booking microneedling does not itself imply that a prescription product will be used.
Microneedling with serums, exosomes and LED
Microneedling deliberately changes the skin barrier for a period after treatment, which makes product selection more important rather than less. Our advanced protocols may incorporate selected professional serum support, exosome-led options or LED where these add something useful to the treatment plan.
We do not treat more product as automatically better. The formulation, indication, skin condition and recovery plan all matter, and random retail serums are not interchangeable with products selected for professional use.

How many microneedling sessions will I need?
There is no universal number. For general skin-quality goals, a course of around three appropriately spaced treatments can be a sensible starting point. More established concerns, including some acne scarring, may need a longer or combined pathway. We decide this following assessment rather than selling a fixed course to everyone.
What does my skin look like after microneedling?
Redness, warmth, tightness and sensitivity are common early responses. Some clients also notice temporary dryness or flaking as the skin settles. Recovery varies with treatment intensity and individual response, so your own aftercare instructions take priority over generic timelines.
Does microneedling hurt?
Sensation varies between people and depends on the treatment area and depth. Comfort measures and what to expect are discussed as part of the treatment plan before the procedure begins.
Can microneedling help acne scars?
Microneedling can be relevant for selected atrophic acne scars because collagen remodelling is part of the intended biological response. Scar type matters, and active acne or inflamed skin may change the plan, so assessment comes first.
Can microneedling help ageing or menopause-related skin changes?

What is the difference between professional and at-home microneedling?
