Acne Treatment Newcastle-under-Lyme

Nurse-led acne skin assessment and professional acne-prone skin care in Newcastle-under-Lyme, with evidence-backed advice, clear clinical boundaries and treatment options for suitable post-acne scarring.

Active acne, post-inflammatory marks and established acne scarring are connected, but they are not the same problem and should not automatically be treated in the same way.

Skin assessment is led by Rebecca “Bex” Beckett, Registered Nurse and Lead Aesthetic Practitioner. The clinic's wider clinical governance includes Christopher Beckett, Registered Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber.

Start with the right problem

Active acne, marks and scars need different plans

Active acne

Active acne may include comedones, inflammatory papules, pustules or deeper painful lesions. The priority is recognising ongoing disease, reducing avoidable irritation and knowing when medical assessment should come before cosmetic treatment.

Post-breakout marks

Flat red, pink, brown or grey-brown colour change can remain after a breakout has settled. Post-inflammatory colour change is not automatically the same thing as a structural acne scar.

Atrophic acne scarring

Indented acne scars change the structure and texture of the skin. Scar type, severity and whether acne is still active all affect whether microneedling or another treatment approach may be appropriate.

Skin care basics

Keep acne-prone skin care simple and purposeful

Acne-prone skin can become more irritated when multiple exfoliants, acids, scrubs and spot treatments are layered together without a clear plan.

Cleanse gently

NICE advises a non-alkaline, skin-pH-neutral or slightly acidic cleansing product twice daily on acne-prone skin.

Choose suitable skin products

NICE advises avoiding oil-based and comedogenic skin-care products, sunscreens and make-up where possible.

Remove make-up

Make-up should be removed at the end of the day rather than being left on acne-prone skin overnight.

Avoid picking

Persistent picking or scratching can increase the risk of acne scarring.

When acne belongs with your GP

Some acne needs medical assessment before it needs a clinic treatment

No.1 Urban Aesthetics is not a standalone private medical acne-prescribing service. Our role is to recognise when professional skin treatment may be appropriate, when treatment should wait, and when active acne needs medical assessment through a GP or dermatologist-led pathway.

Deep painful nodules, cysts or severe inflammation

Deep painful lesions and severe inflammatory acne should be medically assessed rather than treated as a routine facial concern.

Acne that is worsening quickly or beginning to scar

Rapid progression or new scarring is a reason to seek medical assessment rather than waiting for a cosmetic treatment course to solve the problem.

Uncertainty that the condition is actually acne

Folliculitis, rosacea, perioral dermatitis and other skin conditions can be mistaken for acne. Diagnostic uncertainty belongs in medical care.

Acne that has not improved despite appropriate previous treatment

Persistent acne despite appropriate previous treatment may need further medical review before clinic-based procedures are considered.

Scarring or persistent pigmentary change

NICE recognises acne that is causing scarring or persistent pigmentary change as a reason medical or specialist referral may be appropriate.

Acne that is affecting mood, confidence or daily life

Acne of any severity can cause psychological distress. Persistent effects on mood, confidence, relationships, school or work should be discussed with a GP.

Urgent medical assessment

NICE identifies acne fulminans as requiring urgent specialist assessment. A sudden severe acne eruption with systemic illness should not be booked as a cosmetic skin treatment.

What we actually offer

Professional skin treatment and selected acne scar treatment

No.1 Urban Aesthetics does not sell a proprietary acne package. Acne-prone skin and post-acne concerns are treated under our established Dermalogica professional skin treatment or microneedling pathways, depending on assessment and suitability.

Skin consultation

Skin consultation is free. We separate active acne, congestion, irritation, post-inflammatory marks and established acne scarring before recommending a clinic treatment.

Dermalogica professional skin treatment

Dermalogica Pro Clear is £70 and may be used for suitable breakout-prone or congested skin. The role of professional skin treatment is to support skin condition, congestion, barrier care and a coherent home-care routine. It is not a substitute for medical acne treatment where medical assessment is indicated.

Microneedling for selected post-acne scarring

Microneedling is mainly considered for selected atrophic acne scarring after active inflammatory acne is controlled and the scar pattern has been assessed.

Basic microneedling is £120. A course of three microneedling sessions with complimentary LED is £300.

Some scar patterns may be poorly suited to microneedling alone and may be better managed with techniques or specialist services that No.1 Urban Aesthetics does not provide.

Why No.1 Urban

Skin treatment with a clinical brake pedal

The clinic aims to treat the clients it can genuinely help and recognise when professional cosmetic skin treatment is not the right route.

Registered Nurse-led assessment

Rebecca “Bex” Beckett RN leads skin assessment and treatment planning at No.1 Urban Aesthetics.

Advanced clinical oversight

Christopher Beckett is a Registered Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber and provides clinical governance input around relevant medical history, medication, treatment suitability and escalation.

Face-to-face assessment before procedure

Active acne, post-inflammatory marks and acne scars are separated before a device, product or treatment package is discussed.

We will advise GP or dermatology review when appropriate

Deep painful acne, rapid worsening, scarring risk, diagnostic uncertainty or failure of previous treatment can matter more than booking another facial.

Medication and clinical context

Medication matters before we decide whether a procedure belongs here

Current and recent medicines can affect whether a cosmetic skin procedure is sensible. Relevant medication and medical history may therefore be reviewed as part of treatment-suitability assessment.

This is not a private acne-prescribing consultation. No.1 Urban Aesthetics does not diagnose or prescribe medical treatment for acne through this service.

GP liaison with consent

Where a relevant clinical concern is identified during treatment-suitability assessment, treatment may be deferred. With the client's consent, a factual clinical letter can be provided to their GP outlining the relevant findings and asking the GP to consider appropriate medical review.

Evidence at a click

Active acne and referral

NICE NG198 sets out medical pathways for active acne and circumstances where GP or specialist assessment may be appropriate.

Microneedling for atrophic acne scars

Recent systematic reviews support microneedling as a reasonable treatment for selected atrophic acne scars while not showing it to be universally superior to every alternative.

Acne care FAQs

Before you book

When should I see my GP about acne?

Speak to your GP if acne is deep or painful, worsening quickly, beginning to scar, leaving persistent pigmentary change, not improving despite appropriate previous treatment, affecting your mental wellbeing, or if you are not sure the condition is actually acne.

Does No.1 Urban Aesthetics prescribe acne medication?

No. Acne Care at No.1 Urban Aesthetics is not a standalone medical acne-prescribing service. The clinic provides professional skin assessment and treatment-suitability advice, Dermalogica professional skin treatments and microneedling for selected post-acne scarring.

Can microneedling help acne scars?

Microneedling may help selected atrophic acne scars once active inflammatory acne is controlled, but scar morphology and severity affect whether it is the right option.

Can microneedling be used on active acne?

Active inflammatory acne and established acne scarring are not treated as interchangeable indications. Significant active inflammation changes the treatment plan and may need medical management first.

What is the difference between an acne mark and an acne scar?

A flat red, pink, brown or grey-brown area can be post-inflammatory colour change. A true atrophic acne scar changes the structure of the skin and creates a depression or textural defect.

Does diet cause acne?

Diet is frequently discussed online, but NICE states that there is not enough evidence to recommend a specific diet as a treatment for acne.
