Frequently Asked Questions Q: What are dermal fillers? Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found within the skin. They are used to restore lost volume, improve facial proportions, enhance facial contours and hydrate tissues. Unlike anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers do not relax muscles—they provide support and structure beneath the skin for a natural-looking result. Q: Which areas can be treated with dermal fillers? Dermal fillers can be used to enhance or restore several facial areas including the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline and around the mouth. Some patients may also be suitable for treatments to improve facial symmetry or restore age-related volume loss. During your consultation we'll assess your facial anatomy and recommend only those areas appropriate for your individual goals. Q: How long do dermal fillers last? Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers last between 6 and 18 months depending on the product used, the area treated, your metabolism and lifestyle factors. Lip fillers generally break down more quickly than fillers placed in the cheeks or jawline. Regular maintenance treatments can help preserve results. Q: Will I look natural? Natural-looking results are our priority. Our aim is to restore balance and proportion rather than dramatically alter your appearance. Every treatment plan is designed around your facial anatomy, skin quality and aesthetic goals. Friends should notice that you look refreshed—not necessarily that you've had treatment. Q: Do dermal fillers hurt? Most clients describe treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. We use premium fillers containing local anaesthetic, and topical numbing cream is applied before treatment where appropriate. Fine needles and cannulas may be used depending on the treatment area to maximise comfort and minimise trauma. Q: How soon will I see the results? Results are visible immediately after treatment, although some swelling is expected during the first few days. Final results are normally assessed after around two weeks once swelling has resolved and the filler has settled naturally within the tissues. Q: Is there any downtime? Downtime is usually minimal. Mild swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising are common and generally settle within a few days. Most people return to work immediately after treatment, although we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, excessive heat, saunas and facial massage for the first 24–48 hours. Q: Are dermal fillers safe? When performed by an appropriately trained medical professional using CE-marked hyaluronic acid products, dermal fillers have an excellent safety profile. At No.1 Urban Aesthetics every patient undergoes a full consultation and medical assessment before treatment. We work within robust clinical governance and follow current professional guidance including recommendations from the JCCP and CPSA. Q: What are the risks of dermal fillers? Like any medical procedure, dermal fillers carry risks. Common side effects include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising. Rare but serious complications such as infection or vascular occlusion can occur. Prompt recognition and treatment are essential, which is why choosing a medically-led clinic with appropriate training, prescribing access and emergency protocols is so important. All risks are discussed fully before treatment. Q: Can dermal fillers be dissolved? Yes. We use hyaluronic acid fillers which can be dissolved using hyaluronidase if clinically indicated. Dissolving filler is a prescription-only treatment and is carried out only following assessment. Although fillers are reversible, our aim is always to achieve the correct result first time through careful planning and conservative treatment. Q: What's the difference between lip filler and facial filler? Lip filler is designed to improve hydration, definition, balance and volume within the lips. Facial fillers are used to restore structural support to areas such as the cheeks, chin and jawline. Different products and techniques are used depending on the area being treated and the outcome required. Q: Can dermal fillers make me look younger? Dermal fillers can soften some of the visible signs of ageing by replacing volume lost over time and improving facial support. They cannot stop the ageing process or tighten loose skin, but when combined with treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, skin boosters or microneedling they can form part of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan. Q: Who performs dermal filler treatments at No.1 Urban Aesthetics? All dermal filler treatments are performed by Rebecca Beckett, Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP). Every treatment includes a face-to-face consultation, medical assessment and informed consent before any product is administered. Q: How much do dermal fillers cost? Prices vary depending on the treatment area, product and volume required. Lip filler treatments start from £90, with full facial contouring treatments priced individually following consultation. You can view our latest prices on our Treatments & Pricing page or arrange a free consultation to discuss your personalised treatment plan. Q: Can I have dermal fillers if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding? No. Dermal filler treatment is contraindicated during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. If you're planning a pregnancy, we can advise on appropriate treatment timing during your consultation. Q: Do I need a consultation first? Yes. A face-to-face consultation is mandatory before all dermal filler treatments. This allows us to review your medical history, discuss your goals, assess your facial anatomy and ensure treatment is safe and appropriate. We don't provide walk-in or same-day injectable treatments without prior assessment.
